FAQ
Does this fit your setup? These are the deciding details.
Short answers. Where a whole procedure is needed, each one points at the guide that has it.
Want the full procedure instead?
Short answers below. When you want the whole procedure rather than the summary, the guides have it: setup walks both sides of pairing two Macs, LAN troubleshooting covers the case where the other Mac simply never appears, and history recovery is for a copy from this morning that has gone.

FAQ
Questions, answered
Which devices does it run on?
Macs on macOS 14 or later. That is the entire list. There is no Windows, iPhone or Android version, so a mixed setup still needs something built for those machines. One thing that catches people out: this website is published in 11 languages and the app interface in 10, so reading this page in your language is not a promise the app will speak it.
Do both Macs have to be on the same Wi-Fi name?
They have to reach each other, which is not the same thing. Wi-Fi on one and Ethernet on the other is fine behind one router. Meanwhile two devices can sit on an identical network name and still be unable to exchange a single packet, which is what guest networks and client isolation are designed to do.
What does Free actually hold back in my history?
Reuse, not finding. Searching and browsing reach every record still retained on that Mac on any plan, across saved text, contact fields, file names and folder names. Free fully opens and copies the global latest 20 across all types, and that ranking is decided before your search and type filters run, with sensitive and unsaved placeholders occupying slots in it. Older records stay findable and show a fixed text summary or a restricted image preview, their copy button raising an upgrade prompt rather than writing anything. And nothing — no plan, no search — brings back what was deleted, never recorded, or held as a sensitive placeholder.
Can my group administrator unlock my older history?
No, and no group plan is capable of it. What the administrator pays for is the group's sync entitlements, such as whether files may travel at all. How far back you can fully open and copy your own records, on your own Mac, follows your own plan. Searching retained records is a third thing again and works for everyone regardless.
Can I send files and folders, not just text?
Files and videos need the administrator on Pro or Max; folders need Max. On top of that, both Macs have to allow the content type, and the transfer has to fit the total-size limit in force, which starts at 100 MB and can be raised or removed entirely. None of it escapes the network requirement: when two Macs cannot see each other, nothing is relayed through a server to help.
Are passwords automatically kept out of history?
No, and it would be dangerous to assume otherwise. What gets excluded is the secret formats the app supports, plus content already marked as concealed; those never become readable history. Everything else is recorded like any ordinary copy — a password typed into a plain text field, the contents of an attachment. Treat it as a safety net that sometimes catches things, and clear what matters yourself.
Will reconnecting resend my last file?
No. Waking a Mac, restarting the app and reconnecting all leave earlier copies where they are. Wait for the connection to show ready, then copy the thing again. Sitting and waiting for the previous copy to catch up is time you will not get back.
Can I buy or install it today?
Yes. The app is a free download on the Mac App Store, and Pro and Max are in-app purchases you make inside the app. Apple is what shows regional availability, the prices that genuinely apply to you, and whether a trial is on offer. Every figure on this website is a US reference amount we have not checked against a live storefront.
Do I need this if Universal Clipboard already works?
Probably only if you move between the same fixed set of Macs and want local history in the same place. Universal Clipboard copies whole files between compatible Apple devices already, and Spotlight on macOS Tahoe 26 or later keeps a clipboard history of its own. What is added here is a group you define and control, plus a searchable record on each Mac. Start from what you already have and add this only where it removes a step you keep repeating.
