Managed Mac clipboard sync after IT turns Continuity off
The profile removed the feature. That is not a fault you can troubleshoot.
Your work Mac stopped pasting to the other Mac on your desk, and nothing obvious changed. Most likely nothing broke: an MDM profile turned Universal Clipboard off, on purpose, to control how company data moves between devices.
There is a LAN path that still works, and it is worth knowing its limits before you build a habit on it. Both machines join a Deskferry trusted group, the text or image you just copied crosses, Finder files follow if your plan covers them, and history stays on each Mac. No iCloud clipboard anywhere in that. Also no promise that your company's firewall will allow it — more on that below, because it is the part people skip.
Why it disappeared on the managed Mac
Deployment baselines and CIS-style checks routinely disable Continuity features on purpose. An MDM profile can clear Allow Universal Clipboard or set clipboard-sharing keys so work data does not ride Handoff to another device. So when the clipboard stops crossing on a corporate Mac, fixing Bluetooth will not bring it back. The profile removed the feature. There is nothing left to repair.
Whatever you use instead has to survive that policy, which rules out anything built on Continuity. Apple's own requirements do not bend either: the same Apple Account on both Macs, plus Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Handoff and proximity, even on machines nobody manages. A workable route has to ignore Continuity altogether and use a path that checkbox never touched.
Managed Mac clipboard sync over the local network
Deskferry runs in the menu bar on macOS 14 or later. On one Mac the group administrator chooses Add Mac. On the other, choose Join a Group and type the 6-digit code — valid 120 seconds, three tries, then you ask for a new invite. Approve the join, set the same current group on both sides, and wait until each Mac shows as connected on a network where they can reach each other.
Then copy on one Mac and paste on the other. Free covers text, links and images sitting directly on the clipboard. Only the current copy moves between group members, over the local network, with nothing relayed through a cloud. Switching the current group changes which machines get your next copy. And after sleep or a reconnect, copy again — the last item does not replay itself.
Need an actual file? With an administrator on Pro or Max, copy it in Finder on the source Mac and paste into a folder on the destination, which gives you an independent copy there. Folders need Max. Ordinary text and image handoff does not touch that path at all.
Ask IT before you depend on it
This is the part worth doing first, not last. MDM can block Deskferry even though Continuity is already off. Firewall rules, EDR agents, or client isolation on guest Wi-Fi can stop peer discovery or refuse inbound connections. Two Macs on the same SSID is not the same as two Macs that can talk to each other, and there is no public-internet relay here to hop an isolated segment.
So ask whoever runs MDM three things: whether a menu-bar sync app is allowed at all, whether macOS local-network prompts are permitted, and whether notarized apps or LaunchAgents need to be whitelisted. Get those answers before you build a daily habit on it, because a workflow that quietly stops working on a Tuesday is worse than one you never started.
History stays on each Mac. There is no shared cross-Mac history library and no way to browse another machine's history from here. Copy something again out of history and that new copy follows the current group's sync rules like any other. iPhone and Windows are out of scope entirely. For the install itself, the download page has the steps — the app is a free download on the Mac App Store.

FAQ
Questions, answered
Can MDM policy block Deskferry too?
Yes, and this is the honest limit of the whole approach. MDM, a firewall, or an EDR agent may deny the app, local network access, or inbound peer traffic, and Deskferry cannot override company controls. Confirm with IT before you rely on it.
Does this turn Universal Clipboard back on?
No. Continuity stays off — that decision belongs to whoever wrote the profile. What you get instead is Mac-to-Mac copy and paste inside a trusted LAN group, which is a different mechanism, not a workaround for the policy.
Is Continuity being disabled usually a misconfiguration?
Usually it is deliberate. Deployment guides disable Universal Clipboard specifically to limit how data moves between devices. If a profile turned it off, Handoff troubleshooting will not restore it, no matter how thorough you are.
Does history sync across the machines?
No. History is local to each Mac. Only the item you just copied syncs to connected group members.
Can I use this with an iPhone on the same MDM profile?
No. This covers Mac-to-Mac on a local network, plus local history on each Mac. Nothing about phones.
Is it on the Mac App Store today?
Yes. It is a free download there for macOS 14 or later, and the download page has what to check before a managed rollout.
